Teignbridge Canoe Club press release litter pick 100524

PRESS RELEASE

Teignbridge Canoe Club members are passionate about looking after the environment and for the annual spring clean-up event, 12 paddlers took to the water and paddled the River Teign Estuary following the Templar Way picking up litter as they went.

Following this winter’s storms litter was found high up on the banks of the estuary shoreline, and on the historic Templar Way footpath from Newton Abbot Quay to Teignmouth.

The litter included the usual plastic bottles and empty cans, a traffic cone, fishing line, cigarette butts, general plastic litter and even items of clothing.

Club member Ellie said, “We love our local river so combining a beautiful paddle with a litter pick was a win win for us” Kevin added “We only did one side of the estuary and I suspect far more litter goes straight out to sea!” and Cathy summed up our adventurous litter pick paddle very well “Gentle glide gathering garbage!”
