Training

Training
Our mission is to enjoy "Adventures to Make you Smile", and with learning and practice those opportunities open up.
With training also comes safe paddling as we want everyone to have fun in our amazing blue spaces.
We dont stop evolving our training, listening from others in our industry so that we can do it better.
We are able to offer BCAB awards from Start, Discover, Explore to Sea Kayak Award and White-water Award.
Teignbridge Canoe Club is recognised for its training, and is accredited with "British Canoeing Talent" status, reflecting its commitment to delivering quality training for all its members.
Have a look at some of what we offer below.

River and White-water Skills
We frame our training and trips on rivers from River Running to White-water, so paddling and training on rivers from grade 2 to grade 4.
Specific coaching sessions and learning on a journey "trips with tips" supports paddlers through their progression building competence and confidence.
We have a great relationship with our trusted providers helping us inspire Club Members to be able to reach their goals whatever they are.

Sea Kayaking Skills
Sea Kayaking along our coastline is a great environment for learning.
For many the journey starts at our club Nights, perhaps progressing on sheltered water on our estuaries before exploring our local coastline and beyond.
Coaching sessions and journeys with "trips with tips" helps all our paddlers grow their key skills, and it doesnt stop with just paddle skills, as rescue skills are not only fun to practice but so important.
We also engage providers to deliver expeditions as well for formal skills coaching sessions.

Surf Kayak Skills
To compliment our River Running, White-water and Sea Kayaking we have the excitement of surf right on our doorstep.
We engage providers to offer coaching for those starting out on Surf on Sit on Tops to those pushing the boundaries a little more in a moderate surf environment.

Pool Sessions
The club runs pool sessions at Dawlish leisure Centre through the winter months (October to March).
It's a great place to learn, practice and chat.
Skills training includes capsize with a smile, key paddle strokes, rolling and rescues.

Paddle Safer Course
The Paddle Safer course is formal BCAB course designed for anyone new to paddling, or relatively inexperienced to paddling, wanting to gain knowledge and raise their awareness of paddling safely in a sheltered water environment, in or on the craft that they paddle. Typical craft would include kayaks, canoes, stand up paddleboards, sit on tops and inflatables.
The Club has delivered this course over the last two years, open to both Club members and also members of the public.

Safety Days
At the start of each key season the Club organises and delivers a Safety Day.In the autumn we focus on the rivers with our River & White-water safety Day, and in the spring we focus on our Sea Kayak Safety Day.
Each course is based on BCAB learning modules and and are delivered by our Club leaders and coaches.
This always leads to shared learning, exchange of experiences and best practice so that we can get on the water ready to enjoy the adventures with the season ahead.
Importantly, each session offer CPD points demonstrating that our qualified leader are up to date and ensuring their competence is ready to lead you on the water.

First Aid Training
A key training requirement for our Qualified Leaders is Outdoor First Aid.
We use local trusted professional providers so that our leaders are equipped to be able to help our Club members or anyone else on the water that day.

Leadership Training
Whether it leadership training for paddlesport Leader, White-water Leader, Sea Kayak leader or Surf Leader, we engage the best professional providers and build strong relationships with them...they are our trusted providers.
We want our training to be of the highest so that our Club Leaders can be deployed feeling equipped to lead with a smile.
